Consign Zines with Boneshaker Books in Minneapolis
Here’s a message from Boneshaker Books in Minneapolis about consigning zines at their new store.
Best,
Sarah Morean

Hi there!
Boneshaker Books, a new independent bookstore, is excited about the opportunity to carry some really unique and local handmade items. We’re opening this winter in the Seward neighborhood (just behind 2nd Moon Coffeeshop), and we plan to have a warm, friendly spot for reading, meeting and checking out new & used books, zines and handmade items.
So, here are the details for consigning your work at Boneshaker Books!
- We do a 60/40 split — person consigning gets 60% and the store gets 40% of total sales. You can base the sale price on what you want to earn per item.
- 90 day terms — After 90 days, the consigner needs to pick up unsold items or items will become property of the store (and could be discounted, given away for free, etc.) It’s really important for consigners to keep on top of their items!
- When you bring items in to consign, you’ll get a copy of a consignment form and we get a copy. It’s important that you hang on to your copy and bring it back to be paid out.
- If you are consigning ephemera or zines, we may keep it in a plastic sleeve to keep it from getting damaged on the shelves.
- You can consign things at any time once we’re open, but to make sure your stuff is stocked for our opening, contact Amanda (amanda@boneshakerbooks.com) to find a good time to fill out the consignment paperwork and drop your items off. We’re still getting the space set up, but we’re trying to move very quickly right now!
Don’t hesitate to email if you have any other questions.
Thanks!
Amanda Luker

Zines on toast is a month long tour with zinesters from the UK (Rumlad, Last Hours, Hey Monkey Riot and Morgenmuffel) travelling with Portland’s Alex Wrekk (Brainscan and Stolen Sharpie Revolution). Join us for tales of the London Zine Symposium, failing to punch Tony Blair, ideas for radical health, creating a UK social centre, bike punks, regional dialects and much more!
Zines on Toast will speak at the Minnesota Center for Book Arts as part of their Book Arts Summer Roundtable series.
Zine-Making in the Heartland : NOW ON DISPLAY
Zinefest’s accompanying art show this year is called “Zine-Making in the Heartland” and it’s on display through the end of July at the Seward Cafe in Minneapolis.
This show features the zine collection of Andy Sturdevant. Please reference the accompanying catalog which details the origin and impact of each book on display.
Zinefest Awarded Grant Money for 2010
Zinefest has the distinction of winning the smallest dollar amount from the Minnesota State Arts Board’s 2010 Festival Grant. We’re tiny and proud! Congratulations to all the other winners, including our friends at Red Hot Art and the Rain Taxi Book Festival. LINK!
Arise! is going out of business
Arise! Resource Center and Book Store is going out of business. Their prices are dropping throughout the week and on Saturday, May 15th, they’ll have a farewell bonfire.
We’d like to thank Arise! for everything they’ve done since 1993 to help promote and support zinesters and zine culture in the Twin Cities. They’ve been a huge source of support for the Twin Cities Zinefest and their presence will be sorely missed. We take comfort in the fact that current collective members will have a hand in the future of the space — when it becomes Boneshaker — but will miss what it is today: a monument to activism and DIY culture.
Farewell, Arise!
volunteers needed for zinefest
We are currently looking for volunteers with certain skills who wish to be incorporated into the programming for Zinefest 2010. More information is available on the volunteer page of our site.
Zinefest is full!
We have sold out of space for the 2010 Twin Cities Zinefest. But don’t lose heart! We may be able to find room for you yet. There’s plenty of time between now and July, so who knows what will happen in the meantime? If you would like to exhibit at the TC Zinefest, but haven’t yet applied, please contact the Coordinator, Sarah Morean, to be placed on the wait list. Email her at zines@zinefest.org.
